摘要 | Lamiids, one of the major clades of asteridae that contains more than 50,000 species dispersed across 49 families and eight orders, representing approximately 15% of angiosperm species richness. To date, Lamiids have been well accepted as monophyletic. However, relationships among and within major clades of the Lamiids remain controversial. The goals of this study are to describe the diversity of pollen morphologies in Lamiids, to infer the pollen evolutionary patterns and trends across the Lamiids, and to estimate the potential systematic significance of pollen characters; tests of correlated evolution were conducted between pollen characters and three factors: plant growth form, habitat type and pollination type to provide insight into the adaptive evolution of pollen characters. We reconstructed a maximum likelihood tree based on the most recent phylogenetic studies for the Lamiids, comprising 150 terminal genera (including six outgroups), and the sampling covered all eight orders and 49 families within the clade. Across the 150 genera on the reconstructed phylogenetic tree, information of 18 pollen characters were documented from previous publications and websites. To illustrate pollen diversity of the Lamiids and provide new palynological data, pollen grains from 33 species representing 33 genera, 22 families, and seven orders were observed under light, scanning, and transmission electron microscopies. Eighteen pollen characters were coded using comprehensive and democratic strategies and optimized onto the reconstructed phylogenetic tree using Fitch parsimony (FP), Maximum Likelihood (ML), and Hierarchical Bayesian (HB) analyses. In addition, we conducted a series of tests of correlated evolution between pollen characters and three factors: plant growth form, habitat type and pollination type using three phylogeny-based statistical methods: PCCA (Phylogenetic Canonical Correlation Analysis), PDAP (Phenotypic Diversity Analysis Program), and Pagel’s Correlation Test. The main results are summarized as follows: (1) The Lamiid taxa analyzed in this study displayed several widely shared characteristics including pollen dispersed as monads, pollen grains isopolar and radially symmetrical, amb circular, apertures distributed equatorially, ectoaperture shape colpate, and exine composing a tectum, a columellate infratectum, a foot-layer and an endexine. In contrast, pollen characters including shape class, size, aperture number, endoaperture shape, supratectal element shape and tectum sculpture showed high diversity. In addition, some genera showed relatively high infrageneric pollen variation within the Lamiids: i.e., Pedicularis L. (Orobanchaceae), Stachytarpheta Vahl (Verbenaceae), Justicia L. (Acanthaceae), Sesamum L. (Pedaliaceae), Veronica L. (Plantaginaceae), Jacquemontia Choisy (Convolvulaceae), Psychotria L. nom. cons. (Rubiaceae), and Coffea L. (Rubiaceae). (2) In reconstructing the pollen character evolution, we found that among the 18 p |
